The R.M.S.Ormonde arrived at the Semaphore anchorage shortly before 3.30 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon. A doctor immediately went out to the vessel, and shortly before 6pm she was declared a "clean ship", the steamer then started on her way in to the Outer Harbour, but had only reached the mouth of the channel when she was struck by a blinding rain squall. Subsequently the captain of the vessel sent out a wireless message stating that he would not come into the wharf until daylight on this morning. Many relatives and friends of the home coming soldiers were on the wharf, and consequently had to leave for their homes after a fruitless wait. Register 30/7/1919.
