Journey Notes

The P.& O. branch liner Ballarat, which arrived at the Semaphore anchorage on Thursday night, proceeded to the Outer Harbour on Friday morning to discharge 1,200 tons of cargo, and to load 500 tons of scrap iron. Capt.Hanson reported having left London on December 18, and experienced heavy westerly gales down the English Channel and in the Bay of Biscay. The ship did not call at Las Palmas, and from the islands to Capetown, reached on January 10, fine conditions predominated. Nothing was seen during that portion of the passage, with the exception of a few British cruisers. At Capetown passengers, mails and about 300 tons of cargo were embarked. The easting was made in 45½ S, with fine weather and occasional westerly gales. On arrival there were 835 passengers on board, of whom 27 landed. 30/1/1915 Register.
