Enoch GRATTON was my Great Grandfather. He was born in Sneyd Green, Burslem Staffordshire, England, February 14, 1838. He attended school until he was seven, when he went to work at the potteries for twopence a day. To quote him from a memoir "It was no uncommon thing in those days for children of seven to go to work, not only with minds untrained, but with bodies underfed and scantily clad." He became interested in religion when he became a member of the Band of Hope for boys. in 1861 he started work as a minister in the Methodist New Connexion Church in Newcastle-on-Tyne. In 1883 he was asked by the Methodist New Connexion Conference to take charge of the Maugham Church in Adelaide, South Australia. He continued preaching in and around the state for man-years. He died on June 30th, 1931 at age of 93.
