Am reading Michael Ondaatje autobiographical novel The Cats Table, in which the Oronsay plays a major role, beautifully written, not to be missed .

Wanting to find he name of a passenger saling from Australia to London in 1962

My Mother travelled to Australia on the SS Oronsay on the ships voyage from London to Adelaide 1958. I am researching my Mothers travel to Australia and her adventures whilst she was in that country. I found a postcard addressed to her " Miss Mary Carr, SS Oronsay, Sydney NSW Australia. Dated 21 March 1958. It would be wonderful for my brothers and myself if it can be confirmed she was on the passenger list. Regards, Mary Jo Taylor

Boarded ORONSAY in Sydney , Nov. 18th 1955, Berth 281. Suva Fiji, Honalulu Hawaii, Vancouva Canada, San Francisco California on December 8th 1955. Fastest preparation of 28 days from indenture release from Evans Deakin Shipyards in Brisbane, National Service callup, Passport issue, Tax clearance, and other 'Minor' documents. Age 20! Loved the experience.

As a 12 year old lad, I returned to England with my parents and sister in 1962. Happy to make contact with anyone interested in that voyage.

My wife Bev and I met on the Oronsay a day out from Southampton on voyage to Sydney via Panama in 1975. It's final voyage. There was a bomb scare on the second or third day, but nothing eventuated.

My mother arrived in Sydney on 20 June 1958. My grand mother then arrived on the 28th March 1959. I was born on 16 May 1959

Was onboard for the Oronsay's final voyage from Sydney to Hong Kong via Brisbane & Manila in 1975. Amazing and fun journey as a 10 year old.

I need some information. Can anyone tell me the departure dates 0f the SS Oronsay from Tilbury Dock London during the second half of 1953?

I was an assistant waiter, aged 16, on the Oronsay in the latter parts of 1963. Our first voyage ailing out of Southampton was a 2 week cruise of the Mediteranian, then a 2 month trip to Australia then followed with a 5.5 month cruise to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji Vancouver, San Francisco visiting all ports back to Australia. We then did a 2 week cruise around New Zealand and Fiji carrying all the Australian beauty queens. We then sailed back to Tilbury. This voyage served the purpose of acompanying Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11 on her Coronation Cruise. A wonderful experience for me, a young lad enjoying his first year in the Merchant Navy and serving on his first luxury liner.
