My great-great grandfather, Peter (Pierre) Sarre (1807–1869), and his wife Susan neé Stephens (1808–1859) were on board the barque Evening Star when it berthed in Port Adelaide on 23 November 1854 after a three-month voyage from Jersey. They had married on 16 April 1835 in the seaside village of St Peter Port, Guernsey. After Susan’s death in Adelaide in February 1859, Peter remarried Mary Ann Georgina Nixon (1825–1892) in Nairne on 25 July that same year. They had one son, Richard (1860–1897), who married Selina Brunswick Godden (1867–1941) on Christmas Day 1886. She gave birth to my grandfather, Claude, on 28 December 1892. (Upon Richard’s death at the young age of 37, Selina remarried, to William Bradley. He died in 1946, aged 86, five years after Selina’s death). Claude married Mary Grace Hensley (1899–1964) on 24 November 1923. My father Brian was born to them in 1927. Richard Sarre, Selina Brunswick Sarre Bradley, and William Bradley are buried in the West Terrace cemetery, Adelaide, in unmarked graves. My father Brian married Winifred Turner in March 1952 and they had three children, Deborah, Warwick (Rick) and Airlie.
