My father 'George Caldicott' arrived in Port Adelaide on the SS Ballarat under the Barwell Boys scheme on the 20th May 1924 as a 17 year old as a Boy Farm Apprentice, ..he worked on a farm in the Peake District. Mr Don Best is the Secretary oe the Barwell Boys & Little Brothers Association, he most likley advise members of this service and i think that a lot of information could be gained by both parties. My Grandfather Gerald O'Leary left England aged 17 and on his own aboard S.S. Ballarat. The ship left England on the 17 June 1926. He returned to England sometime later, joined the Met police and was later killed escaping the Germans in France having been shot down on a bombing raid.

I have family photos of my mother, Pat Rich, on the SS Ballarat on the way to England in either 1934 or 1935. So you could add another voyage to your list?

I have a photograph/postcard of my grandfather on board SS Ballarat. He is with a group of men and they're calling themselves 'The Flying Squad'. In 1929 he was learning to fly in RAF Abu Sueir in Egypt. I have a period September to end November 1929 with no entries so I assume that for the early part of this they may well have been travelling home to UK. Is it possible to find out if there were any voyages covering Egypt to London that covers this period?
